Holy Crap

Well, Our Fearless Leader has done it again. In order to protect our pristine wilderness areas, GWB has placed a moratorium on development of solar projects on public lands, citing environmental concerns.

While it's nice that he's concerned about the environment and all, it's interesting that his concerns don't extend to preventing drilling in ANWR, or mountaintop removal mining in West Virginia, or logging old-growth forests... Nope, only solar. Solar projects already proposed have the potential to power 20 million homes, according to the article.

The take home message? Bush isn't even trying to hide his agenda anymore, and he's side-stepping congress to implement it.

Someone should invent a solar powered Oil derrick so his head would explode.

Re: Holy Crap (2.00 / 2)

You're being ridiculous. Solar power involves harnessing the rays of the sun and focusing them enough to power photovoltaic cells. And as we all know, solar rays generate heat. Heat causes fires. There's a lot of dried-out forests around due to drought. So he's merely protecting our forests by limiting the ability to tamper with the sun's deadly rays.

Bush would sign onto the solar projects as (none / 0)

long as they are for tourism purposes and use no solar power. Actually Bushian Scientists have concluded in their recently published Republican Academy of Sciences Report that we are losing solar energy and we need to conserve SE ASAP. Bush as a true environmentally friendly conservator wants gasoline powered generators are installed to light the solar fields and run the a/c's in the tourist offices located on the project fields.

This is ridiculous (2.00 / 1)

He's becoming a parody of himself.

They're fucking solar plants.  The plants in question appear to not even be photovoltaic, they're solar thermal.  They're a bunch of mirrors that reflect sunlight onto a tube of oil or a big rock.  Then the heat is used to power generators.

What environmental impact is there??

Re: This is ridiculous (2.00 / 3)

Well, the solar engergy plants can have an impact environmentally, but these things (particularly those slated for BLM/Federal land) are well regulated, mitigating impacts below the threshhold of significance.

I know.  I work for an environemtal consulting firm that represents many solar energy developers.  Not only is Bush doing the completely wrong thing, he's now directly affecting my livelihood.

What an asshole.  Pardon my fuckin' french.

Sorry, rant concluded.  :)

Re: Holy Crap (none / 0)

Bush likely thinks that solar plants steal energy from the Earth and send it to the Sun!!

Re: Holy Crap (none / 0)

Solar Power is a form of Sun Worship.

If Jesus comes back and sees a bunch of shny Temples to the Sun God, he will be pissed off at America and we won't get raptured up.
